Weathervane Wednesday ~ A Locomotive and Coal Car

Weathervane Wednesday is an on-going series of photographs I post weekly, usually of weather vanes in the Nutfield, New Hampshire area, but sometimes they can be from anywhere. Occasionally they are elsewhere in New England, or very historical weather vanes from far away. Sometimes my weather vanes are whimsical, but all are interesting. Often, my readers tip me off to some very unique and unusual weathervanes, too!  Today's weather vane was photographed in Concord, New Hampshire.

Do you know the location of weather vane #159? Scroll down to the bottom to see the answer!

Today's weather vane was seen on a mall on Fort Eddy and Loudon Road in Concord, New Hampshire. You can see it above the Pizzeria Uno's restaurant, next to the large L.L. Bean outlet store.  This shopping mall was built on the site of the former old "New Hampshire Highway Hotel" that used to be on TV every four years for the presidential primaries.  Many press conferences with presidential candidates and interviews took place at this famous hotel, which burned to the ground in 1988.

I don't know if a train station or tracks were ever on this side of the Merrimack River, but the weather vane would be an appropriate nod to that history.  It is a cute two dimensional metal vane, with a strange plume of smoke coming from the locomotive.
